Big Cajun Training Week 2
Stuck it out for another week on Time Crunched Triathlete.
Tuesday evening I had a great swim and I even dragged my bike to the UNO Lakefront Arena, but once I got out, it was starting to rain and I was afraid of getting caught in a storm. I haven’t gotten Mo to change out the piece on my bike so that it will fit in my cheap but adequate trainer so I just chalked it up to being time crunched and moved on. I felt like I was flying in the pool, which for me means I was swimming a 200 in around 5:00.
Thursday I did a 45 min bike interval workout (3×8:00) and I was pretty pumped to be averaging over 15 mph. I could tell a big difference between riding on the lakefront in the wind and off the lakefront. At one point I was riding faster during a recovery out of the wind than in the interval against the wind. It made me jealous for a power meter! After that I ran for 15 minutes in City Park and packed up to get home just in time for boot camp with Mo. About halfway through boot camp I took two Honey Stinger chews (I’ve been laying off the sugar lately) and finished strong but I couldn’t eat anything when I got home.
Saturday was super overcast so I slept in and when I got to the lake I realized that the overcastness went hand in hand with heavy wind. I was supposed to do 4x 6:00 intervals at sub 8:27 pace but I felt like crap and could only eek out 3 intervals. I headed into the pool and was fine for the 1500 meter workout. I wasn’t feeling as fast as Tuesday but I hit my marks.
Sunday Mo and I headed to the North Shore for a riding adventure you can read all about later this week.
Overall, just like the week before, I missed 1/2 a workout. Despite that I feel like my bike and swim is getting stronger and my running is holding steady. Which is great.
Nutritionally I’ve been trying a few new things that I’d like to hammer out a little more before I started dishing on them (har har).
Big Cajun, I’m coming for you!
