Where’s the Baking Soda At?

Workout: 5 mile run/ 50:17 minutes

We are on our way back! The name of the game this weekend in a lot of New Orleans was restock and clean. Even though our we threw out all the food in the refrigerator pretty early, our refrigerator stank. Bad.

But obviously so did everyone else’s because Rouses had baskets of baking soda just hanging out in the aisles.

And this was good news to everyone living in MidCity New Orleans. Boy, have we missed Juan’s Flying Burrito. I was so jealous when the Magazine St. location opened last week and our Carrollton location was still closed.

Tonight I ran with the Louisiana Running Company Run Group. Last week I only ran the 3 mile loop so I was determined to run the whole 5 miles today. I started off slow, too slow, and I seriously had to push through at the end to finish decently. City Park was full of people for a football game and because there is a temporary aid station there for people to pick up water, ice, tarps, and MREs since the storm.

Tomorrow Mo and I go back to school. We were out for an entire week because of Isaac plus Labor Day. I am pretty ready to go back, mainly because I am ready to get back into a good eating, sleeping, working, exercising routine.

Plus, hurricanes suck.

So as not to leave this post on a sour note, here is an adorable picture of Bella with her tongue hanging out right after she woke up from a nap.

The running store down the street from my house hosts a running group twice a week. I didn’t go all spring because I was going to boot camp on Monday nights and having date night with my husband on Wednesdays. Since taking up some swimming and biking, I decided to cut back on boot camp to two days a week and go to this running group instead.

My dad has been my only consistent running partner since I was 15. Occasionally I have run with other people, but what can I say? Once you’ve run with the best, it’s hard to run with anyone else, so I usually run alone. In daylight. In busy areas.

But tonight I braved a New Orleans evening to try this running group. I ended up running the five mile loop and it was hard to pace myself because I had no idea where I was going. I just kind of hooked up with a group and followed them as best as possible. At the end of the loop I checked my watch.

44:50

Wha?! That’s 8:58 pace. That’s crazy fast for me.

I may have just found my new Monday night addiction.
