Snake!

Tuesday Workout: Run 4.08 miles/ 46:10

Did you miss me?! We took a trip to Texas to visit friends so we have been a little out of touch with the world wide web. Plus, I only ran once in Texas, although it was a pretty exciting run and I bet you can guess why.

This was my second run in the Flows. I am still liking them! It’s hard not to like purple shoes.
I had researched parks in San Antonio near where we were staying looking for some place with paved trails and some shade. I settled on Leon Creek Greenway and our friends said they knew people who liked to bike there and were easily able to direct us to a good place to park near the trails.

The parking was convenient and it was easy to access the trails from the parking. The trails are completely separate from the roads so there was no worries about traffic. I was disappointed that the trails were white cement and not asphalt, since cement is harder on your legs than asphalt. My guess is that the city picked white cement either to not absorb as much sunlight, or to make it easier to see on the trails.

Mo was running the trails too, using his Couch 2 5k app. We started at the same time, but I was running and he was still warming up, so I got a good bit ahead of him. I paused and stepped off the trail for the one and only time to get this picture.

As soon as I stepped back on the trail I saw this guy slithering off of it.

This picture was taken on extreme zoom as far away as I could stand. I have no idea what kind of snake it was, but I’ve never met a snake I want to fool with and as soon as I snapped the picture, I sprinted away. I was catching my breath when Matt caught up to me and I explained the terror that had just unfolded. He was both unimpressed and way too into his run to want to stop and check out the picture (which means he likes running!!!).

The rest of the run was thankfully uneventfully. Leon Creek Greenway was pretty, but it didn’t offer much shade and I felt pretty isolated. I saw about 10 bikes on the trail and maybe two walkers the whole time, plus there wasn’t much shade, which was the main thing I was looking for.  I might do this trail again if I was biking or running with someone else the whole time.

you don’t see scenery like this in NOLA!

I ran pretty slow…watching for snakes and all.

made it out alive… whew!

We had a great time visiting San Antonio and Austin with our friends. We even got to celebrate Mo’s birthday out there by going to Schlitterbahn and baking a brownie-cookie-oreo-whopper cake.

Last night we drove home and passed the time by making a high school playlist to listen to. All the angsty songs that got us through. Gin Blossoms, Dave Matthews, Refreshments, Nada Surf, Sheryl Crow, Dishwalla, Toad the Wet Sprocket, and Live all made our list. It was really fun to make the list and then sing along to all the songs.

Who would make your high school playlist???
